LWIR Camera Test Stations

Optopax has developed LWIR optical test stations for the production, qualification, and quality control of LWIR cameras, sensors, and optics. Our platform architecture allows for rapid and cost-effective test station customization. Optopax provides engineering and design consulting services to configure each station to the specific testing requirements of the intended application.

The Optopax LMTS Series is a collection of modular and configurable LWIR test stations engineered for laboratory, production, and quality control environments. Built on proprietary Optopax LWIR collimator technology, the LMTS Series enables simultaneous MTF characterization across multiple FOV positions—significantly reducing measurement time and increasing throughput. Each station in the LMTS Series supports a comprehensive range of testing capabilities, including through-focus characterization, boresight alignment, blackbody widefield uniformity, and blemish testing. This versatility makes the LMTS Series one of the most advanced and flexible LWIR test platforms available on the market today.

Finite and Infinite Virtual Object Distances

The LMTS Series collimators can be adjusted to project virtual object distances from 1 m to ∞. Selection is done using either manual or optional motorized controls. This allows for through-focus measurement of finished cameras, or finite working distance focus optimization for cameras during manufacture.

Customized Test Chart Patterns

Precision-cut target geometries—including edge, dot, crosshair, and bowtie patterns—
are engineered to meet global MTF testing standards. These targets enable accurate, repeatable characterization of spatial resolution and optical performance across diverse applications.

Versatility

Streamline testing with a test station capable of testing LWIR cameras  with DFOV ranging from 8° up to 70°. Minimal reconfiguration is needed for the different camera FOV. Get more R&D testing done  or maximize station utilization in production.

Expandable Test Functionality

Preconfigured to include up to two Optopax black body sources. Characterize camera sensor uniformity, dead pixel and blemish properties or perform radiometric calibration all on the LMTS Series Test Stations.

OPX Collimator Family

Optopax offers a family of proprietary collimators incorporating PID programmable thermal blackbody sources, precision manufactured interchangeable targets to define ROIs, and a range of optics to address a variety of camera and lens testing configurations. Through focus test functionality is available for both on- and off-axis ROI field positions. All of this functionality conveniently is contained within the collimator housing. Further customization for specific camera optics is also possible though our design services team.

 

The OPX collimators are available as stand alone units suitable for integration into an existing or third party test station, or integrated into an Optopax test station.
